British
Virgin Islands Population: 19,000
approx. Description:59 square miles make up 36 small islands, only 16 of which are inhabited. Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Jost van Dyke and Peter Island are the principle islands. Largely rolling, dry hills and beaches. Pale sands and excellent water colours -- but long popular with tourists, including the yachting crowd, as cruising distances are short between the islands. Tortola rises to 1,780 feet at Mount Sage, the highest point in all the Virgin Islands. Anegada is very flat, the entire island being no more than a few feet above sea level. Virgin Gorda has unique rock formation with underwater channels and caves. |
